Christmas is just around the corner so why not take a look at some of the latest DVD and Blu-Ray releases and get some good gift ideads . This week sees the release of some of the Summer’s better movies and it also includes a brilliant documentary about ice hockey and the final performance from the late great Robin Williams.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt for a fifth time in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. After the critical and financial success of Ghost Protocol the franchise returns with another high tempo blast that, whilst fizzling out towards the end still has enough thrills to entertain.
The movie starts with a phenomenal set piece, one which has been the main marketing force for the campaign which sees Hunt hanging off the side of an airplane as it takes off. The sequence is Mission Impossible at his finest, showing why it is still such a successful franchise.
Sean Harris also gives us one of the best villains of the year as the shady leader of the Syndicate, a terrorist group dedicated to building a new world order.
Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage and Kevin James team up to save the world from an army of invading video game characters. If this sounds rather stupid then that’s because it is.
The movie, adapted from a short film of the same name had potential- the concept is certainly an amusing one and in the right hands this movie could have been a whole lot better.
Peter Dinklage has in tongue firmly planted in cheek here and provides some of the movies better moments but in the end it can’t help but turn into another by the numbers Sandler comedy.
