Top Fifteen Films of 2015

2015 has been arguably the biggest year in the history of cinema. Box office records have been broken and with Star Wars: The Force Awakens currently in cinemas this is going to be a tough one to beat. Box office success doesn’t dictate quality though but thankfully in 2015 the two have managed to co-exist quite successfully.

Two of the year’s highest grossing movies- Inside Out and Mad Max: Fury Road both look set to be key contenders this awards season whilst over in the states Creed also looks set to go down the same route. It has been a fine year for animation on the whole in fact with The Minions going on to smash over a billion at the box office and movies like Song of The Sea and Shaun of the Sheep being heaped with critical praise.

It’s also been a very strong year for documentaries with Asif Kadapia following up Senna with Amy- a documentary about the late Amy Winehouse whilst Joshua Oppenheimer blew everyone away with his follow up to The Act of Killing- The Look of Silence. Some lesser seen documentaries like The Wolfpack and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief have proven brilliant viewing as well.

In short 2015 has been one hell of a year and if you think there have been no good movies you simply haven’t been watching enough. Rounding down to 15 films was extremely difficult but here goes.

Honorable Mentions

All of these films were phenomenal in their own right and in any other year may well have made the final cut.

Enemy
Still Alice
Bridge of Spies
The Wolfpack
Red Army
